Final Update: Unit 3.1, 3.2, 4.2

Final Photomontages:

Scale issues, lighting, and shadows were corrected from last draft. Overhead lighting feature was added to create overhead visual interest.

A night rendering was developed to illustrate the lighting qualities in Perspective 1

A new background image still needs to be taken for this perspective, but an overhead canvas structure has been added to the roof garden to replace the tree shade.

A path was added to create links to the existing sidewalk, reflections were reworked and scale issues were fixed. Creeper guy was removed.

Final Dioramic Modes:

Light from different levels is reflected to give relation between different users.

This illustrates the proposed pedestrian walk over the tracks and road. Base image was taken from the diorama.

Final Spatial Diagramming:

Update: Units 3.1, 3.2, 4.2

Unit 3.1: Photomontages were at 75% last week - see previous blog (Unit 2.3: Continued Perspective Work).

Unit 3.2: Diorama was at 75% lat week - see previous blog (Unit 3: Dioramic Modes of Representation).

Unit 4.2: Spatial Diagramming
Built Structures: From this layer I can see the negative space between buildings and utilize that to develop a plan for connections between structures.

Parking: This layer shows the vast amount of surface parking in the area that should be adapted with more sustainable methods.

Amtrack and Freight Tracks: This layer illustrates the way the train tracks bisect the site challenging connection development. Connections will need to be made above and below the tracks.

Streets: This layer identifies current block formations. These block formations should be punctuated regularly to establish a common rhythm.

2' Contours: From this layer it is apparent that the area is relatively flat except around the river and the train tracks. These topographical changes should be utilized to make the site more dynamic.

Unit 3: Dioramic Modes of Representation

This diorama represents the methods in which light will provide connections between the pedestrian bridge and the train traffic, as well as the vertical relation between the three modes of transportation (pedestrian, train, and car).

Unit 2.3 Continued Perspective Work

Context has been added to this image to provide more cohesion and a better sense of place. Entourage has been added and adjusted to more appropriately fit the scale.

The proposed pedestrian bridge has been added to this image as well as more scale figures.

Seating and more entourage has been added to this image to convey a more lively space.

Unit 4: Analysis & Design Process

Preliminary GIS study...

This image includes the dem data for my site within Marion County, as well as hillshade, contours at 2 foot intervals, and building, parking and street shapefiles.

Unit 3: Dioramic Modes of Representation

The first draft of this diorama is meant to show relationships between the heights of buildings in the project area. There is an area within the project that is proposed to become an infill of mixed use and residential development. This will help determine how best to balance the new infill with what is existing. Toothpicks are used to represent the heights of buildings at their corners at a 4x vertical exaggeration.
